So why should Netflix pick up Ao Ashi and Blue Lock? What makes Blue Lock stand apart from its other soccer counterparts is how unbashful the story is to completely disregard the sports anime cliche of friendship and teamwork, and instead, feed on the egos of its characters as they all compete against the other to be the very best of Japan’s aspiring youth.īeautifully illustrated, the animation studio Eight Bit has a mammoth task on its hands to please fans, however, judging by the trailer, fans of the manga have nothing to fear and should be incredibly excited. Basking in the fun of its shonen genre, Blue Lock takes soccer to that over-the-top level of fun that could only be appreciated through manga and anime. Haikyu! is to Ao Ashi what Kuroko’s Basketball is to Blue Lock. As a result, the Japanese Football Union builds a facility called Blue Lock, which is dedicated to finding the very best of Japan’s talented pool of players. The story of Blue Lock takes place after the 2018 Russian World Cup where the Japanese National Football Team placed 16th in the tournament. On August 1st, 2018 the first chapter of Blue Lock debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. But his dreams are dashed when he is the reason behind his team’s elimination from a tournament, however, his talent catches the eye of Tatsuya Fukuda, the youth coach of Tokyo City Esperion FC. The story is centered around aspiring soccer player Ashito Aoi, who dreams of becoming a professional. On January 5th, 2015 the first chapter of Aoashi was published in the Japanese magazine Big Comic Spirits. Those two challenges are Yuugo Kobayashi’s Ao Ashi and Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s Blue Lock. But after years of dominating the sports anime scene, two upcoming series have the potential to usurp the throne. Sports anime have been extremely popular in recent years, but arguably none have been more popular than the beloved high school volleyball anime Haikyuu!. The soccer anime scene is about to blow up, and Netflix needs to be a part of it, here’s why. The beautiful game will see the first-ever world cup tournament held in the Middle East when it kicks off in December 2022 and the highly anticipated anime adaptations of Ao Ashi and Blue Lock will debut. Yet, the fight hasn’t ended! The planes of reality erupt in bolts of energy, and maybe you, and only you, will save the day and slay the Demon.2022 is going to be a huge year for soccer. The other heroes, defeated, return to their soccer-playing, hoping to drown their anger and feelings of inferiority. Undaunted, our heroes regroup and take the fight to the Demon’s lair, but he is still unbeatable, soccer kicking one of the heroines as if she talked bad about his Demon-momma. Yet, all the rest of our heroes fall into a deep depression, and while trying to forget their friend’s ill fate, they gather for a friendly game of soccer…yet, it is not to be! A blonde demon – whose name cannot be spoken, for it will shatter reality, but who many call “The 80s" – erupts from Earth’s core spewing forth the Curse of Bad Hairstyles. Some of the heroes and heroines are already on their way to defeat the Demon, but, alas, it’s not to be as the Demon casts one of the heroines into the swirling pits of hell…īut fear not! A Sailor Moon-looking heroine – who is Alice’s secret identity – with a huge sword rises to avenge her friend’s demise. So, he runs to warn one of our heroines, and she’s so angry at it all, she kicks a ball with so much intensity that it rips through the fabric of day/night and makes stars appear in daytime. The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland knows that something’s wrong, since he exists deep inside Earth’s core. The situation is so dire that the fires of hell are seeping through the tears in the fabric of reality and boiling our planet, so much so that humans can barely keep their clothes on. Here it goes…Īpparently, this game tells the story of an endless clash across many planes of existence where young women and men with magical abilities try to best a fiery Demon, and you are one of those heroes. So, I’ve decided to quickly tell you what I think this game is all about based solely on the trailer. I’ve never heard of this game or the ones before it. Sometimes you watch a game trailer, and you say to yourself, “yes, this trailer perfectly captured the essence of the game." And then you watch a trailer like the one for Soccer Spirits: Season 2, and one minute and some seconds later you are still staring at the screen absolutely dumbfounded, still trying to comprehend the visual assault you’ve just endured.
